Schuessler Tissue Salts Frequently Asked Questions

General

What are Tissue Salts?

Tissue Salts are homeopathically prepared minerals which support healing processes in the body by regulating mineral levels in the cells. They are the 12 vital minerals that the body needs daily to support cell metabolism and ensure that the minerals which the body ingests in food are evenly distributed. They were developed, promoted and successfully put into practice as a therapeutic system by the German physician, Dr. Schuessler at the end of the 19th Century.

How do Tissue Salts work in comparison to crude minerals?

Tissue Salts regulate mineral levels rather than build mineral levels in the body. They do not supply minerals directly but help the body compensate for disturbances in the distribution and absorption of minerals during times of imbalance. For example, painful intestinal cramping may occur even when someone's diet is balanced and they are receiving enough magnesium — Dr. Schuessler called this a disturbance of molecular distribution

Why are Tissue Salts important to our health?

Tissue Salts provide the cells with the essential nutrients that they lack and a proper mineral balance is necessary for normal cell function. When our blood is lacking the necessary nutrients, our bodies become prone to illness. Tissue Salts improve the overall absorption of nutrients coming into our body and encourage overall good health and wellbeing.

What causes Tissue Salt deficiency in the cells?

Lack of salt in the cells arises from stress, a poor diet, electro smog, bacteria, viruses, pollution, injury…can cause a blockage in the cells regulation, which can be corrected by the Tissue Salts thus brings the healing process into motion.

Wouldn't it make sense to take all twelve Tissue Salts at the same time?

Dr. Schuessler developed and prescribed Tissue Salts for use against specific disorders in the body. While a combination of all twelve will not harm the body, it is recommended that you select based on your current symptoms.

What is the difference between Kali Mur and Kali Phos?

Kali Mur, along with Nat Mur, regulates the balance of fluids in the body, elimination of water, functioning of muscles and nerves, metabolism of sugar and protein, heartbeat control, and stomach and intestinal activity. It also regulates sodium levels in the body. Kali Phos is essential for nerve and muscle function and regulates their coordinated activity by distributing potassium ions throughout the body. It has a stabilising effect on the nerves, mind, emotions, and body, prevents decay of cell tissue, and is considered a nutrient salt for muscle and nerve tissue.

How long do I need to stay on Tissue Salts for them to be effective?

This depends on the ailment and the individual. Acute conditions may be relieved quite quickly (2–4 weeks). For chronic conditions, tissue salts may be taken over 2–3 months, or ongoing for maintenance of health. Generally, the longer the condition has been occurring, the longer it will take to heal and bring back balance.

Can I take Tissue Salts while on prescription medications?

There are no known issues with Tissue Salts and medications, but we recommend discussing this with your prescribing practitioner as they need to be aware of everything you take. Tissue Salts are natural, non-toxic and non-addictive.

Is there anything to consider before taking Tissue Salts?

If you are under the care of a practitioner for any disease or serious condition, please discuss with them before starting any M&P medicines. If you are taking any medications, consult with your healthcare professional.

Can I take Tissue Salts with my usual supplements?

Are there any side effects from taking Tissue Salts?

No, Tissue Salts are very well tolerated and safe for all to use. Some people experience a clearing and shifting in symptoms when they first start, as the body may detox and rebalance, but this should be mild and pass quickly. Please seek advice from your healthcare professional if symptoms persist.

How do Tissue Salts differ from mineral supplements?

Tissue Salts differ from supplement minerals such as calcium and magnesium as they are homeopathically prepared micro doses absorbed directly from the mouth into the blood, bypassing the gut. Tissue Salts also aid the absorption of mineral supplements.

Why does Martin & Pleasance only stock 12 Tissue Salts and not more?

Martin & Pleasance stocks 12 single Tissue Salts, 22 Tissue Salt combinations, and 3 Tissue Salts for children, all following the methodology set out by Dr Schuessler. We do not go beyond Silica No.12 as we hold the licence to respect Dr Schuessler's original work and the way he prepared the minerals, which are still formulated in our lab today. Other companies may prepare additional minerals introduced after Dr Schuessler's passing.

What’s the difference between minerals and tissue salts?

Tissue Salts are homeopathically prepared minerals and stimulate cell metabolism while common mineral tablets such as magnesium or calcium have similar properties, but they simply fill up the body’s mineral reserves. Tissue Salts do not need to be broken down in the digestive tract before being assimilated which allows them to be extremely effective.

Can I give Tissue Salts to my pets?

Yes, all Schuessler Tissue Salts can be given to your pets. The Tissue Salts can be crushed and added to your pet's food, or simply add 2 sprays to the pet's water a few times per day, making sure to change the water each time.

Is there anything to consider before taking Tissue Salts? What about Diabetics?

If you are under the care of a practitioner for any disease or serious condition, please discuss with them before starting any M&P medicines. Diabetics need to take care with their consumption of sugar — we recommend they use the sprays rather than the tablets, as the sprays are sugar free. If you are taking any medications, consult with your healthcare professional.

Are Tissue Salts homeopathic?

Tissue Salts are not homeopathic but are micro doses of minerals that are prepared homeopathically. They do not follow the Law of Similars as homeopathic remedies do. Dr Schuessler used the homeopathic method of hand trituration to distribute micro dose minerals into the body, using lactose as a carrier. Unlike homeopathic remedies, Tissue Salts treat physical ailments and do not address the mind-body relationship. They can be touched with your hands and taken before or after brushing your teeth. Martin & Pleasance also formulates Tissue Salts in spray form for those who are lactose intolerant.

Can I give Tissue Salts to my baby and children?

Yes, however a range has been specially formulated for children available only in tablet form — the Kidz Minerals range, which includes 6 formulas that support children's health. If your child is lactose/dairy intolerant or diabetic, we recommend the Tissue Salt Spray that best suits their condition.

What excipients are in Tissue Salt tablets, creams, and sprays?

What is the difference between taking Comb 12 or taking single minerals?

Comb 12 is a good starting point as it includes all 12 minerals the body needs in one tablet, which also means less lactose than taking single Tissue Salts. Both combinations and single Tissue Salts are equally effective. Dr. Schuessler believed in focusing on the condition at hand rather than trying to address multiple imbalances at once. For example, if experiencing cramping and poor sleep, taking Mag Phos and Kali Phos 4–6 times per day or taking Comb A would be more targeted than taking Comb 12.

Where do the ingredients in Tissue Salt tablets come from?

The lactose powder that forms the tablet base is sourced from Germany. All other excipients are sourced within Australia.

Why do my Tissue Salt tablets taste different to before?

The Tissue Salt formula has not changed in any way. However, the dial used in production was adjusted to make the tablets slightly softer in texture, following feedback that previous batches were too hard. This means the tablets break down faster and the taste may seem slightly different. All batches are taste-tested and checked by brand ambassador Susan Gianevsky and must adhere to strict TGA-registered guidelines.

Will Tissue Salt or homeopathic pills be affected by heat during travel?

Yes, the pills are fine to travel with and will not be affected by heat or cold. The amber-coloured glass bottles are protective in themselves and heat does not affect the efficacy of the homeopathic pills.

Does the lactose in Tissue Salts cause tooth decay?

The lactose in Tissue Salts will not cause cavities or tooth decay. In fact, Calc Fluor supports the formation of bones, teeth, ligaments and nails, helping them to become firm and hard, thus protecting the teeth against cavities. If lactose is still a concern, Tissue Salt sprays are available in a lactose-free formula. The HCR Receding Gums spray also contains Calc Fluor in a homeopathic spray form.

The Tissue Salt spray base contains ethanol (17%), purified water, and glycerol. Note that trace amounts of lactose may still be present in the sprays.

Are the Schuessler Tissue Salts tested for heavy metals?

The Tissue Salts themselves are not tested for heavy metals, but the lactose used in manufacturing (which makes up 89% of the tablet weight) is tested and compliant. The remaining ingredients (the specific salt triturate, calcium hydrogen phosphate, and magnesium stearate) are not plant-based or soil-grown, so no heavy metal risk applies. Tissue Salt sprays contain minerals, purified water, glycerin, ethanol, and tissue salt tincture — no plant-based or soil-grown ingredients — so heavy metal testing is not required.
