Acute Otitis Media (AOM) is a very common among young children and the conventional standard treatment has always been a short course of anitibiotics. Treatment with antibiotics has faced a number of problems, including antibiotic resistance and in 2 studies was shown to have no advantage compared to placebo. A study by Frei H & Thurneysen A (2001) examined the use of individual homeopathic treatment for pain relief in AOM and showed a resolution rate that was 2.4 times faster than placebo controls and that 60% of children were free of pain within 24 hours of treatment. A further study may compare anitibiotic treatment with homeopathic treatment in AOM, however these results are very persuasive in favour of homeopathic treatment for AOM.
